Whenever you place any structure on your property, you are required to obtain a Building Permit before the work is started. This includes house additions, car ports and patios. A permit is not required for maintenance as long as the dimensions of the building are not changing. For example, replacement roofs, replacement windows or new siding do not require any permits. But, if you are replacing your roof and extending it out the back to form a roof over your patio, you do need a permit. Permits are also required for storage sheds. All building permits must be obtained from the Lebanon Co. Planning Department. They are located in the City/County building at 400 S. 8th Street, Lebanon. Or you can call 228-4444.
A driveway permit is required for any new driveway installed that adjoins a township road, or any driveway that is expanded. The cost of the permit is $25.00 for residential driveways. To apply for a permit, fill out the permit application (which can be printed out by clicking here) and submit to the Township along with a sketch of the property with driveway location and $25.00. If approved, the permit will be mailed to you. You will be contacted by phone if there are any questions or the request is denied.
All new construction in the Township requires a sewage permit of some kind. If the building is within 150' of a public sewer line, it must be connected to the public sewer. Sewer permits can be obtained at the Township building, 1800 S. 5th Avenue. The cost for the permit is $75 plus a fee of $2500 per EDU for the tap-on fee. Sewer capacity may also need to be purchased from the City of Lebanon, which is handled through our office. The cost to purchase sewer capacity is $2400 per EDU. Call us to check on the total cost for your location and type of construction. If the building is more than 150' from a public sewer line, an on-lot sewage permit is required. These permits can be obtained from the Sewage Enforcement Officer who is located in the County Planning Department. Call 228-4444 for more information.
Whenever any work is being done in the street, a road occupancy permit is required. This would include things like a new water or sewer line, a new cable connection, new telephone lines underground, new gas service. These permits are usually picked up by the contractor or utility company, but if you are having any work done at your property, it is best to make sure your contractor has acquired the necessary permit.
